If there’s one response I hear more than any other when I tell people what I do for a living, it’s “I wish I could write a book.” Usually closely followed by questions which are a variation on the theme of, “How did you do it?” How to Be an Authorpreneur answers those questions.
The book is a free 30-page primer for anyone considering writing and self-publishing their first book. It’s actually an updated version of The Indie Author Guide I used to offer through the Write, Publish, Promote site, and in compiling and editing it, I was amazed how little has changed over the years.
1. Write Your Best Book
You still need to write the best book you can, get it edited, or at least proof-read, and polish it to the best it can be. In fact, if anything, as time goes on and more indie authors throw their hats in the ring, writing quality will only ever grow in importance.
2. Produce a Professional Product
Interior formatting and cover design are just as vital today as ever, too. While it still saddens and frustrates me to see new authors sling a CreateSpace edition out using minimal margins and terrible typography, these days at least I have courses available on My Online School I can point them to to help them out.
3. Learn to Promote Yourself
I’m the first to admit this is still the one thing that I struggle with, along with pretty much every other authorpreneur out there. Even though I’m well-versed in inbound marketing, and have no trouble writing promotional copy for clients, there will always be something about self-promotion that just feels a little icky to me. Still, if you want to learn how to be an authorpreneur, learning to sell yourself and your products is part of the deal. Of course, it helps if you’ve done 1 and 2 above well 😉
4. Download How to Be an Authorpreneur
There’s a lot to consider, from defining your target audience, to planning and outlinging your book, getting the first draft down, editing, formatting and the technical side of publishing. It’s not something to be taken on lightly. So, if you want to learn how to be an authorpreneur, download the free primer today. It’s free, it comes with supporting resources, and I’ll be here to answer any questions you have along the way.
To your journey 🙂
